{succulents, candles, antler, jewelry box all thanks to HomeGoods}
We recently installed white floating shelves in our bedroom and I couldn’t be more happy with the results. Before we installed them I began thinking about how I would dress up my shelves. Keep in mind that I did have some limitations given that the shelves could not hold more than ten pounds. Some immediate rules came into mind when dressing up shelves that I wanted to share with you lovely readers:
1. Balance. It’s all about clean lines and color balance. I went with a black and white theme with hints of colors pulled from decor pieces I purchased at HomeGoods and West Elm such as faux succulent plants, antlers, candles, etc.
2. Display books (or shoes in my case) that look good and go along with your theme. I also displayed some of my favorite Vogue magazines, including one I just grabbed from Milan.
3. Start at eye level. What do you want to see first? What do you use the most? I put the shoes I wear most and also some of my favorite candles (seen here also) that I use all the time.
4. Mix shapes and sizes. You don’t want your shelves to look all the same. In my case I had to make sure that I didn’t have too many shoes or decor pieces to one side when comparing each shelve.
5. Don’t limit what you display. Display anything you love from family heirlooms to greeting cards. I displayed a birthday card my fiance gave me, which I love reading from time to time.
