Hilton Head Travel Diary

The official kick off to summer 2016 is right around the corner and so it’s time to start planning those summer trips. Fortunately, Allegiant Air comes to the rescue by now offering daily non-stop flights from BWI to Hilton Head. Have you started packing the sunscreen yet? With one of country’s best beaches just an hour away by air, it’s time to grab your swimsuit and jet down south.

An island only 12 miles wide, Hilton Head is full of restaurants (loved Hudson’s!), beautiful beaches, and activities to accommodate the solo traveler or large family looking to plan their summer outing. There’s something in Hilton Head to satisfy any traveler. Foodies and seafood lovers will rejoice with an offering of Southern inspired restaurants featuring local fare (more gumbo please) or the island’s catch of the day. Sport and Fitness enthusiasts will find a host of activities from great running and bike trails to water activities like paddle boarding (it was so much fun!), kayaking, and water skiing. For those of you who seek a more muted beach experience, there’s dolphin tours, fishing and sunset cruises too!

Your bags are packed and actives ready but where to stay? Don’t worry, there are many options from five-star resorts, boutique hotels and home rentals to choose from. And for my last stay, Natalie and I opted for the wonderful Westin Hilton Head Resort and Spa. The Westin’s trademark “Heavenly Bed” lived up to it’s name and the hotel is a stone throw from the beach or my hotel room which featured an ocean front view.
