One of my favorite things about blogging is being able to meet those that inspire you in a unique way. Being that this is my second interview on the blog (first one with Tadashi Shoji here) I knew exactly what I wanted to ask Aimee. As a fashion inspiration to many, I was more interested in her life as an interior designer. She is just as sweet as you could imagine so I hope you enjoy this short and sweet interview I had with her at the Tiffany Atlas event she hosted last week.
(Q) Can you talk a little about your design process and how you choose home decor items? Is it similar to how you choose clothes for your closet or is there a big difference?
(A) With fashion I tend to make more impulse purchases, whereas with home decor items I take my time and do research.
(Q) What advice do you have for those looking to decorate on a budget?
(A) Invest in statement pieces, like an accent chair. To change up the mood in your space on a budget, switch out pillows or add a lamp and mirror to make the space appear bigger.
(Q) How do you balance your interior design career with blogging?
(A) I don’t sleep. I can’t remember the last time I slept more than 5 hours. Sleeping 5 hours is a good night for me now. While I am young, I need to do as much as I can.
(Q) What’s next for your career as an interior designer?
(A) I am going to continue to do it, even though blogging is getting more and more busy. Interior design is a passion of mine so it’s only natural to continue doing it.
A big thanks to Aimee and the Refinery 29 team for making this interview happen. If you don’t already, be sure to follow Aimee’s blog here. Also, Tammy did a great job serving as my photographer for the evening.
