NET-A-PORTER is one of my go-to-destinations for workwear, and just about everything else! Few other sites have such a beautifully curated and yet vast offering of apparel and accessories. From finding an outfit for a special occasion, or searching for new staple pieces, to updating my workwear wardrobe, I know I can always count on them.
Building a workwear wardrobe can be challenging but incredibly rewarding. If you’ve followed Style MBA for a while, you may know that before becoming a full-time blogger, I worked in real estate and consulting for several years at the Pentagon. Sometimes, being able to express your sense of style in the workplace means being able to more fully express yourself in general, and that is always important. A well-rounded workwear wardrobe is all about having a smart approach to staple pieces. Here are a few tips and tricks I live by when it comes to my workwear must haves!
How I Approach Workwear Must Haves
Build a a collection of well-made, well-tailored blazers. Start with finding the perfect black blazer, and then add other versatile neutrals like navy, grey, and beige into your wardrobe. They’ll help you complete an endless number of outfits and are essential for maintaining your style in unpredictable weather.
Invest in quality button-down blouses. These tops are a secret weapon in your workwear wardrobe, because they’re incredibly versatile. Layer them under a slip dress (like I’ve done in the outfit below), or tuck them into your favorite trousers and pair with a simple pump for a classic look.
Yes, lace can work at work! Try finding tops or dresses with lace details, or approach your completely lace pieces by layering them under more conservative dresses or sweaters. Think of lace as more of a highlight than a centerpiece when it comes to workwear.
Depending on the day and event, make sure to always have a pair of heels on hand. I always make sure to have both high heels and low heels available especially since my feet need a break at times. I love how comfortable kitten heels are and you can never go wrong with a pair of classic nude heels.
Sometimes all you need to make an outfit pop is a statement handbag. Whether you reach for a bold red color (have that bag too!) or classic blacks and whites, you can’t go wrong with pairing your favorite statement bag with your workwear look.
